Hi there

IM EMILY

I have always had a deep curiosity about people, their relationships, and their stories. This curiosity, alongside my belief that true connection can be both healing and transformative, led me to the field of counseling.

I view therapy as a combination of deep introspection along with more immediate, concrete change. In our work together, we will explore underlying themes, patterns, and narratives, and we will also focus on more immediate skill-building and behavioral change. I lean heavily on General Systems Theory, Narrative Therapy, Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems and other modalities to support you in deeper exploration. Whereas I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Solution-Focused Therapy to assist you in creating more concrete, immediate changes. I work best with clients who are engaged and motivated to learn about themselves; therapy should feel like a conversation. It is my ultimate belief that my clients are the experts of their own lives, and many of my clients would describe my style as down-to-earth, direct, and non-judgmental.

I have extensive training and experience treating couples, and my couples work is largely informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an evidence-based treatment modality, along with General Systems Theory. I have also completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. Additionally, I am a certified Prepare-Enrich Facilitator, an assessment I use with premarital couples. Outside of couples' work, my expertise lies in working with individuals with various relationship concerns, anxiety, OCD,

I graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Human Development and Family Sciences. I continued my education and training at Valdosta State University, where I received my Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, I work with a wide array of presenting concerns, such as anxiety, boundary issues, relational conflict, familial wounds, perfectionism, relationship anxiety, identity development, self-image, and more. My expertise in individual therapy lies in working with clients who are experiencing anxiety, OCD symptoms, and/or relationship concerns with romantic partners, family members, friends or colleagues. I use humor and compassion to create a supportive and challenging environment.

Couples Therapy

I have extensive training and experience treating couples with a variety of presenting concerns. My couples work is largely informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an evidence-based treatment modality, along with General Systems Theory. I have also completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. Additionally, I am a certified Prepare-Enrich Facilitator, an assessment I use with premarital couples. My areas of specialization in couples' work include: poor communication, high levels of conflict, improving trust, creating a deeper connection, and pre-marital counseling.

Family Therapy

Some of the presenting concerns I have supported families in navigating are as follows: poor communication, low levels of trust, disconnection, blending families, parental separation, boundaries, and more. Through feedback loops, I support families in better understanding how certain dynamics are maintained so that they can introduce alternative behaviors and practices to create the relationships they desire. â€‹

Therapy for Teens

I use a warm and non-judgmental approach (and lots of humor) to ease some of the discomfort that may come with speaking with a therapist. I want my teenage clients to feel empowered by our relationship, and creating an open, trusting environment is my top priority. Most of my teenage clients may struggle with relational conflict, boundaries, perfectionism, anxiety, or identity development.
